HOT ISSUE (핫이슈) debuted on April 28, 2021 under S2 Entertainment as a seven-member girl group, notable from the outset for their unusually international composition — member Mayna is Romanian, making her one of the very few non-Asian members in a mainstream K-pop idol group. The group's name was framed as an acronym for Honest, Outstanding, and Terrific, and their debut mini album Issue Maker drew positive attention for its energy and range.
Their second release, the single album Icons, followed in September 2021 and was similarly well-received within their fanbase. Despite the quality of their output, HOT ISSUE never secured a breakout moment at the scale their production suggested was possible, and S2 Entertainment announced the group's disbandment on April 22, 2022 — exactly one year after their debut.
In the K-Pop Atlas graph, HOT ISSUE represents one of the sharper examples of the structural challenges facing smaller-label idol groups in the 4th generation: a group with genuine talent and a distinctive identity that could not generate enough commercial momentum to sustain label investment within a single year.
